Why Highly Distributed exists

A bigger conversation.
A home of your own.

Your website can be the starting point for a conversation that travels far beyond it.

Make the open social web usable

The Fediverse connects independently operated services through shared protocols. That freedom comes with unfamiliar concepts: actors, handles, discovery, inboxes, and delivery. Highly Distributed turns those concepts into practical steps for people who publish on the web.

Start with a field guide, check your public profile, and test a real follow and a new post. When something doesn’t work, our troubleshooting guides help you narrow down what to investigate.

Evidence before a green light

Our checker looks at public discovery and profile information. It cannot certify a server, guarantee delivery, or tell you that every platform will support every interaction. The launch checklist pairs automated discovery checks with tests you perform from another account.

How these guides are maintained

Each platform walkthrough links to official documentation and shows its review date. A review checks the instructions against those references; it does not certify every hosting setup. Screenshots are credited to their source and may show an earlier interface.

Our test checkpoints ask you to verify discovery, a real follow, a new post, and a reply on your own installation. We separate what the checker observed from what still needs a hands-on test.

Small, useful, independent

This project is an independent resource, not an official service of Mastodon, WordPress, Ghost, or the W3C. Guides link to the platforms’ own documentation so you can verify details and follow changes at the source.

Your next step is a small one.
