Give readers a clear way to follow.
Create a small Follow section that works for readers using different Fediverse apps.
Before you begin
- Your full, tested Fediverse handle.
- The HTTPS URL of your public profile.
- Permission to edit your website’s About page, footer, or navigation.
- 01
Use the complete address
Copy your full handle, including both the username and server. A display name alone is not enough to identify you across independently run services.
- 02
Show a profile link and the handle
Make the public profile URL clickable, and print the handle as text. A reader should be able to copy the address even if their app does not recognize a special follow link.
- 03
Explain the one extra step
Tell readers to paste the full handle into the search field of their own Fediverse app, open the matching profile, and follow. Avoid implying that visiting a profile automatically follows it.
- 04
Test your own instructions
Try the flow from a signed-in account on another server. On mobile, check that the link and handle remain easy to use. Use the Follow link builder to prepare HTML or plain text for your page.
What success looks like
A reader can identify your profile and follow it from their own app without guessing your account address.
Turn the guide into progress.
Keep track of the steps you’ve verified, or troubleshoot the part that isn’t working yet.
